These Percent word problems are great for ages 11 and older who are looking to improve their percent skills.

### Zane ate three quarters of his breakfast whereas Jebb ate 60% of his. Who ate more of their breakfast?

3/4 x 100 = 75%
75 is greater than 60 meaning Zane ate more than Jebb.

### 20% off 50 is? (Note “off” and not “of”)

• Explanation

20% of 50 can be written as 20% x 50 or 20/100 x 50 which equals 10
Off means to take off or deduct so we need to go 50 - 10 which equals 40

### Out of two dozen eggs, three are 6 that are broken. What percentage of the total eggs are broken?

25%

• Explanation

Two dozen is the same as 2 x 12 which equals 24
6/24 * 100 = 25

### Sandy got 80% for her math test. On the same test Riaz got 15 out of the 20 questions correct. Who got the higher percentage?

15 out of 20 can be written as 15/20
15/20 * 100 = 75
We know Sandy got 80 which is higher than 75

### On a farm there are 15 chickens, 10 cows and 25 ducks. What percentage of the farm animals are ducks?

50%

• Explanation

Add up all the animals: 10 + 15 + 25 = 50
Then we know 25 are ducks therefore 25/50 are ducks
25/50*100 = 50%

### 75% of what number is 15?

20

• Explanation

This one is a little tricker.
The easiest is to convert the percentage to a fraction and then cross multiply:
15 * 100/75 = 20
